Passive real estate investment options with Chris Prefontaine

At AMI we preach the idea of building your wealth outside your agency, while you still own your agency. Sadly, many owners leave too much in retained earnings inside the agency and over time, they piddle that money away. Every agency owner deserves to profit from the risk they took to start the business and the sweat equity they’ve put into it for years. Agency owners often ask me about how other agency owners are building a nest egg outside of the shop. Most will consider real estate but rarely do they think about passive real estate investments. I want to make sure we change that! […]

How AI insights can benefit agencies with RJ Talyor

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a hot topic but many agency owners wonder how, exactly, it can benefit their shop. They get how it works but they think that either a) they don’t understand it enough to deliver on it for clients or b) they can’t afford the AI tools out there for agencies. The truth is – now is the time to experiment. Most agencies are at the infancy stages of learning about AI and how to use it to serve clients better. But we have to get up to speed or we will find ourselves left behind. The good news? It’s within your grasp. […]

Appendix B: Tools for Getting it Done

Two notes:  First, these tools change faster than a blink so these were the right choices in January 2020. Second, you can download a PDF of this appendix here. We’re quite confident in the evergreen value of everything we’ve written, but here, when these lessons are put into practice, is where this plan all goes to pieces! We know these tools will evolve, grow, go away, etc. At this moment in time (call it 2020), we believe these are some of the best options out there. Your mileage will vary, without a doubt. But this will get you started. There are undoubtedly other tools out there. If you’re already using tools different from the ones we’ve included here, and you’re happy with them, then by all means, continue using them. But if you’re looking for some new ideas, we hope you’ll find this list a helpful place to start. That said, the software and tools space is ever-changing. To help keep the list current, we created an online guide, what you might call a master list, at AgencyManagementInstitute.com/content-tools, where you can get the most up-to-date set of the tools our content teams are using. We divided the tools into the following five categories: Project Management and Scheduling Audio/Video Social Media Monetization Web/SEO Project Management and Scheduling LastPass: a password management tool ScheduleOnce: guest-scheduling software that integrates easily with Zoom, Google, and InfusionSoft for monetization Zapier: integrations between different platforms The goal with this suite of tools is to make it easy for guests to schedule time with you, reschedule, and receive reminders. We use ScheduleOnce instead of AppointmentCore (and we did do extensive testing on both) because SO integrates so easily with Zoom, Google Calendar, [...]

Appendix A: Slicing and Dicing Recipes

Note: You can download a PDF of this appendix here. Cornerstone: One Book The word count for a typical paperback business book ranges from 40,000 to 50,000 words stretched over 10 to 15 chapters. That’s a lot of content that can be sliced and diced into a variety of formats, lengths, and purposes. Here’s a framework for how you could make that happen. And if your team doesn’t have the time, you can outsource much of the content and editing work to companies like Writer’s Access. Here’s what you can create from one book: 60 blog posts for your agency’s website: Slice and dice each book chapter into five or six blog posts, then optimize that content for organic search. Post one new blog per week for the next 12 months, and you’ll have all the content for your blog created, entirely in sync with the POV in your book. 60 videos for blog or YouTube: Take the 60 blog posts, slice them down into three or four talking points, and record a short three to four-minute video of you covering the highlights. Then post one new video per week on YouTube and embed the video inside the corresponding blog post on your website to further boost your SEO opportunity. And don’t forget to optimize the title, description, keywords, and closed-captioning for the actual video on YouTube, too. 15-25 articles in owned media: Take the content of the blog posts or videos and combine, blend, and sort the content to create 15 to 25 articles you can pitch to the publications you know your target audience reads. Once the articles get published, you can share the links on all your social media channels. But be [...]

How stressed are you?

We manage our people, we manage client expectations and we manage our finances.  And then there’s email management, biz dev management and a host of other things that are under our watch.  But all of that focus on making sure that everything is running like clockwork can also jack up our stress.  That stress shows up in a lot of little ways:   We are short tempered with our team, family and friends We feel like we can never let up or wind down We miss deadlines (internal or external) We fall behind, putting incredible pressure on our teams to cover our rear ends We are distracted when we’re with our family and friends We  feel our jaw clenching, our head pounding, or our back knotting up   Our “normal” work day is to run around and put out fires all day.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I have ever had a work day that played out exactly how I thought it was going to when I woke up that morning.  We have chosen to live in chaos.  And sometimes, we even like it.  But like it or not — it’s our reality.   And that’s before you add in our personal life and the challenges that sometimes come from that side of the equation.   The truth is — we can’t escape stress.  They say, in moderate doses, it’s actually good for us.  But left unchecked, it can diminish our effectiveness and we bring a less than ideal version of ourselves to work and home.   And we all know — there are some serious physical/health consequences to boot.   To survive that reality, we need coping mechanisms.  Yes, I [...]

How to create an amazing client experience with Stacey Singer

The reality is, we spend so much time thinking and worrying about business development, and in most cases that exuberance is not really matched with the same level of excitement for our existing clients. Which is crazy because we all know that clients get much more profitable the longer we keep them. Despite knowing that – we keep making the same mistakes and jeopardizing our most important client relationships. What if we could avoid those mistakes? […]
