What agencies don’t know about the PPP loan program with Stephen Katz

Agency owners are scrambling to take advantage of the CARES Act, and in particular the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans but there’s a lot we don’t know because there’s a lot that is not set in stone.   There is a total lack of clarity around this how the PPP works – from application all the way through repayment and potential forgiveness. The 800-page act says one thing and the SBA says another. As I describe it in my conversation with guest Stephen Katz, we are repairing the plane while we’re flying it. […]

Surviving the storm 04/17

Hi everyone -- here's the replay from today's open mic webinar. Four things below: The framework report from the Hong Kong agency The recommendations re: documenting the PPP loan so you qualify for forgiveness The replay (for some reason the video part did not convert so you will have to take my word that I do not have a man bun yet!) A picture of what my puppy was doing while we talked (remember when I said she was chewing on a bone....not so much. And yes, she is still alive)   Replay video but it's just a black screen for some reason so think of it as YouTube audio!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TyxicR-SJ8

Surviving the storm open mic conversation 04/08/20

Two big topics -- the Family First Act and what qualifies someone to request leave and get paid.  (Here's the overview) and loans.  Here's the primer on the EIDL loan I mentioned. As of the recording of this conversation -- several agencies had been approved for their PPP loan, but no one had actually signed the loan papers with their bank or had the loan funded. Here's the link to the webinar conversation.

Should you stop talking dollars and cents with clients?

There are days (and we love them) when price isn’t a barrier and that prospect gladly signs on the dotted line and off we go. But, we’ve all had the experience of being in front of a prospect who is excited to work with our agency until the conversation circled around to dollars and cents. The minute we went from helping them slay their dragons to how much it was going to cost — something happens to the energy in the room. Those kinds of conversations are what have driven a small number of agencies to try to come up with a different pricing model that eliminated the connection to selling time by the hour. We have some AMI agencies that have created a subscription model. Others have created a points system where they, in essence, created their own points system. If you’ve read the book The Marketing Agency Blueprint by Paul Roetzer, you may be familiar with this idea. Paul and his team at PR 20/20 have been using their point pricing model for a few years now and through their agency education arm, offer a free download, Sample GamePlan that show you how their point pricing model works. Here are couple different articles on the idea of point pricing, if you’re interested in learning more. Hi -- Thanks for joining us today.  I hope it was helpful. Here's the link to the Work Share Program page It didn't come up in our conversation, but you all need to be familiar with the new Family First Act that was just passed.  Talk to your attorney or Sharon about how it will impact you. Here's an explanation of the Family First legislation.   And another. Here's a link to the blog posts about language in your contract re: cancellations or dormant. Here's the link to the webinar from today (it's unlisted so I can't embed it here)  It really starts around the 10 minute mark.

On the other side of the COVID-19 virus

Here are the assets from the webinar held by the Hong Kong agency.  There is a lot of hope and good news in this content.  (She starts out slow...talking about the state of the virus etc but she does get very granular re: her agency's experience so hang in there). The deck from the webinar The report (super insightful) that the agency put together about how agencies and brands can survive this pandemic. I screen captured the webinar but missed the first couple minutes.  I have it on the AMI YouTube channel as an unlisted video so only people with the URL will be able to view it.  Again -- please do not share this out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtWo_RqzFDc

Win More Business with Virtual Presentations

By Robin Boehler & Stephen Boehler
 (Founding Partners of
Mercer Island Group
) Covid-19 has changed our lives and our work. Business as usual has been interrupted, yet your clients and prospects are trying to remain truly operational. Agencies may find themselves in a pitch process that has become a virtual exercise. To capitalize on these opportunities, agencies need to adapt – and adapt quickly. How do you pitch your agency without a face to face meeting? The pitch will likely be a virtual meeting which requires different planning and approaches for your agency to stand out and win. To help agencies during this difficult time, we have put together a practical guide on how to pitch effectively via virtual presentations. 1) Ensure you have the right technology in place, and expertise using the technology Use a professional web conferencing platform for your presentation. These platforms enable the agency team and the prospects to see each – a much more personal experience than a conference call. You are also able to control the slides that your prospect sees, enhancing the communication. There are many fine web conference platforms like Zoom, GoToMeeting and BlueJeans. Choose one and master it. The presentation is not the time to explore the rich capabilities of these platforms. Also, keep in mind that your agency may need to use the prospect’s platform of choice. Some client firewalls prevent other platforms. Be sure all agency presenters have hands-on experience managing the intricacies of the selected platform. 2) Prepare materials with the medium in mind Online presentations are very different than in-person presentations. For example, the screen sizes of the participants can vary dramatically. You need to be sure your presentation is clear and [...]
